Download Folder is not Responsive or is not Opening Problem


When Download Folder is Unresponsive, it could only be the Shortcut Download is unresponsive due to Corrupted files was accidentally downloaded.

My esperience on 9/5/26, I used the Download Shortcut, it was unresponsive. This was because I downloaded a corrupted file, subsequently the Download Shortcut became unresponsive.

I asked AI, it asked me to use the Folder path, so I use the path C: - Users - Name - Download
The Download folder open up, I quickly drag the latest downloaded file into the recycle bin and empty the recycle bin. After that, I click on the Download shortcut, it become responsive.

I used the following method, all not working because the corrupted file still in the Download Folder.


How To Fix Downloads Folder Not Responding on Windows 11/10 [2023]

Download Folder not responding problem - Use following steps

Step 1
Search bar (at the bottom task bar) - type CMD - Run as administrator - Yes -
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth - Enter - (Processing from 0-100%, takes more than 10 minutes of even up to more than 1 hour if there are many corrupted files to be fixed) - Restart Computer

Step 2
After Computer Restarted
Search bar (at the bottom task bar) -  type CMD - Run as administrator - Yes - SFC /SCANNOW or (sfc /scannow) (0%-100%, will take a few minutes)
Restart Computer

Step 3 (Not in Video above)
Search bar (at the bottom task bar) -  type CMD - Run as administrator - Yes - chkdsk /v /f /r - Enter - It will say Chkdsk Cannot Run. Check when restart (Y/N) - Type Y - Enter
Restart Computer

After the above steps, still cannot work, still the following screen

How to Fix Downloads Folder Not Responding in Windows 10/11 (2025)

Reset Download Folder
Click on the Folder ICON at the bottom toolbar - Right Click on Download Folder - Properties - Customise - Dropdown arrow - General Items - Check (Also apply this template to all subfolders - Apply - Close the window

Restart File Explorer 
Go to the Search bar at the bottom taskbar - Type Task Manager - Look for Window Explorer (Scroll all the way down to find Under Windows Processes group) (If you can't find, that means the Task has been ended or this system do not have that step, just skip this step and go to Run New Task) - Right click on Window Explorer (If Window explorer is found in the list) - Select End Task
Run New Task - Type explorer.exe

Conclusion (Above Steps Didn't Work)


Move Download Folder Files to a newly created Folder

Search bar (at the bottom task bar) -  type CMD - Run as administrator - Yes
At Command Prompt, Type md "C:\Users\Dan\Download\TempMove"
